Let’s Start Reading - Phonics Class
Phonics instruction, mastery of sight words, and the initiation of reading and writing skills form the core elements of early literacy education. This class will include the following components:
Phonics and Phonemic Awareness Exercises that include:
- Alphabet Knowledge - Letters and Sounds
- Beginning, Middle, Ending and Rhyming Sounds
- Segmenting Syllable & Compound Words
- Blending, Segmenting & Decoding Words
- CVC Words & Word Families - Short vowels
Journey Kindergarten Sight words:
- Students work to master the first 88 Kindergarten High Frequency Words
- Each class introduces 2-3 new words through a multi-sensory approach; the various learning modalities include visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and sensory.
Handwriting: Learn Proper Formation of Upper- and Lowercase Letters
- We will be using the time-tested Handwriting without Tears Curriculum, where students will learn unique letter formations through child-friendly language and step-by step models that make learning each stroke simple and fun.
- Students will use various learning modalities that include visual, auditory, kinesthetic (through movement), and sensory (using sand trays).
